Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from Kansas City Rescue Mission! It’s that time again when we set new goals and make resolutions for the coming year. It’s exciting!

It’s wonderful to have a fresh start, alive with possibilities: This year I will … lose this, or read that, or accomplish all this …

There is nothing quite as satisfying as meeting one of those goals, but we’re all a little frustrated when a resolution falls by the wayside.

Donnie had made the same promise to himself and his family a hundred times, and had broken it just as many. The promise was to get clean from drugs and alcohol and get his life together.

But the draw of his addiction was strong, pulling Donnie down like an undertow again and again. He tried to get help — even came here to KCRM’s Christian Community of Recovery (C-COR) — but each time his resolution ended in failure.

But Donnie didn’t quit.

He came back to KCRM and joined C-COR a second time. But this time there was a different look in his eye, a renewed sense of purpose. “Before I was doing it on my own will power,” he explains. “I was counting on me, when I should have been counting on God.”

This time Donnie made a resolution he could keep, because his focus had changed. He isn’t just trying to stay clean, he is focused on growing in character and in faith!

“This time I wanted more than the clean time, I wanted God in my life,” Donnie revealed a couple weeks after his graduation from C-COR. “I changed my playgrounds and my playmates. Now I continue to go to AA meetings and church. And I keep reading my Bible and praying every day.”

Donnie got another chance to keep that promise to himself and his family because you, and people like you, have given your vital support. As we begin 2012 would you make a resolution to stand with KCRM?

Your faithful partnership helps Kansas City Rescue Mission keep our promise to be here each day of the year for people just like Donnie.

Your gift today will help in so many ways!

Many men who first sat down at our tables this past Thanksgiving continue to turn to us, and there are new faces, hungry and hurting, every week. We provide, seven days a week, nutritious food, hot showers, warm beds and compassionate help. For those, like Donnie, who want a lasting change, we offer counsel, educational opportunities, spiritual direction, and much, much more!

Our desire is that those we serve will — as our mission statement declares — find freedom from the past, hope for the future, and will be empowered to reach their full potential.

Your gift today will be extended to people right here in your own community. What better way to begin this new year?!

Thank you, and may 2012 be your best year yet!

Sincerely,
Rev. Joe Colaizzi
Executive Director
